Whats the difference?
| Familiars, as Wikipedia describes, are"supernatural entities believed to assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic. According to the records of the time, they would appear in numerous guises, often as an animal" (x). Essentially, they are more than pets in that they possess some spiritual/magical powers. This may take form in minor elemental magic, appearing in dreams, and holding a higher intelligence level than normal animals. They can take the form of most smaller animals (most common ones are cats, dogs, lizards, rats, and bats), however in some cases they can be larger (Some say the campuses' mascot, Wurm, is Headmaster Zenith's familiar). As my friend adds, "They can look like anything, like even a rock." Though their magical powers are limited, their primary purpose is to expand the owner's and act as a spirit guide. Pets, however, are regular animals. |  |
